A depleted BEHC W1 team stepped onto the pitch on Saturday to face their first match of the 2024/25 season against Ashford. With 3 players feeling unwell and Ashford looking young and fit with their 14 players, BEHC knew it was going to be a tough game. Ashford started hard and fast putting pressure on from the first whistle and spending the first 10 with most of the possession. BEHC defended well though and managed to counter attack earning a string of short corners. Unfortunately they could not find the back board but a well timed cross on an Ashford attack met an open stick, deflecting the ball into the bottom corner. 0-1 to Ashford.
BEHC rallied at half time but were down to 11 for the second half. There was some good attacks and strong defending of the D, Amelie even earning herself a green card in her commitment. But things started to get ugly in the last 15 mins with BEHC tiring and Ashford securing a sloppy second goal.
BEHC kept pushing to the dying minutes and earned themselves some short corners. One of Vicky Pitt’s deflection was tantalising close but just cleared on the line before the final whistle was blown.
0-2 to Ashford.
Big thanks to Banksy who kept playing so the team had 11 on the pitch resulting in her missing a taxi booked to take her to the airport!!
