Our season opener was a sweltering affair under the blazing sun, and it proved to be a tough test for our depleted squad of 11 as we faced newly promoted K-Sports.
Despite the challenging conditions, we started brightly, taking the lead early on through Kaitlyn's well-converted short corner. It was a fantastic start that lifted our spirits and gave us hope for the rest of the game.
However, the opposition fought back valiantly, and their persistence eventually paid off as they managed to equalize before halftime. The second half saw both teams battle tirelessly, with Kirsten putting in an exceptional performance, covering the whole pitch.
We had our chances to regain the lead, with Suzi and Emily both going close a few times but unfortunately, we were unable to capitalize on our opportunities. In the end, a goal from the opposition sealed our fate, leaving us with a narrow 2-1 defeat.
While the result was disappointing, there were plenty of positives to take from the game and with a bit more luck in front of goal and the addition of some fresh legs, we can be confident of bouncing back in our next match.
