It was a cold early start and we were desperate to get the game under way. Tilly was so excited she arrived early & joined in with the warm-up. We knew we'd have a tough game on our hand against Holcombe as they had a very young team out who loved to run. We conceeded an early goal but quickly came back with an equalizer. An awesome short corner routine saw us level at 1-1 with Socks bringing her goal total this season to 5! Energy was high and opinions on the umpiring even higher with questions raised on the 800 missed decisions. Unfortunately the first half finished with us 2-1 down with an eloquant Carmel who managed to remain on the pitch following a polite request to the opposing umpire for a 'chat'
A quick pep talk at half time boosted morale and we came out fighting. Rooney got stuck in after her relaxing break & picked a fight with the ball and lost. Her biggest concern was that the injury was to her drinking hand so she came off in preparation for the evenings antics & took advice on how to drink through a straw. Despite a good team effort and some hard fought battles across the pitch the junior section of Holcombe managed to score 2 further goals bringing their lead to 4-1. The winter rain & cold was too much for the more mature team of Blackheath and we were unable to overcome to youth. A good game which saw Holcombe fight hard for their 4-1 win but we will drink to fight another day.
