A lack luster start to this weekends match against previously Premier league side, Maidstone. Blackheath were unsurprisingly punished & saw themselves 2 goals down within quick concession. However Annie's well constructed goal put us temporarily back in the game, though it didn't last long as Maidstone quickly slotted through a 3rd goal making us 1-3 down & for a brief moment it looked like this game would be put to bed. But, Player of the Match, Vicki B knicked a goal just before half time to make it all to play for. 2-3 down, we were still chasing the game. Coach Jules had words with the team & we started the second half with more fight & a few changes. It was going to be an uphill battle but Blackheath didn't shy from this task. Amelia showing her tippy-tappy skills, scored a cracking goal making us level & from there on, it was all red & navy! Some superb stepping up from the back line to intercept the oppos tireless tries to break through. Midfield battled hard against some skillful opposition, lots of running but remained disciplined to the task at hand. Wanni to Nicole down the right, a cross from Nicole to the near post, Vicki B was hot on the toes of the keeper & although her shot was saved by the defenders leg, a certain P flick - quick reactions saw us play advantage & smash home the rebound to take the lead for the first time in the game. The opposition were getting more agitated with themselves whilst Blackheath continued to apply the pressure. A hatrick for Vicki B was secured with a beautifully selected pass (a Vicki squared special) from Vicky P who had fended off some vicious tackles to get into the D. Vicki B slotted it past the keeper much to the teams delight & putting a cushion of 2 goals ahead. We knew we had only minutes remaining where we had to keep disciplined with our marking & defending the oppos final ditch attacks. A complete turn around in this game. Blackheath showed what can be done when our hearts are all in it. Well deserved Wine & Cheese night to celebrate a terrific win.
