Blackheath W1s took on Tunbridge Wells in a mid table clash at Kent College. The sun was shining, number 1s (and 2s) were taken care of and with correct sticks in hand the game started. Tunbridge Wells applied pressure early but Blackheath’s strong defence kept them at bay. Blackheath tried a number of attacks including short corners but couldn’t find the back of the net.
A half time talk from Annie & a well dressed Jules, had the team ready to make a few tweaks to take the 3 points in the second half.
The tweaks made a difference and Blackheath soon found themselves awarded a stroke which Vicki B calmly slotted away. 1-0. This goal was what the team needed to get the fire back in their bellies! Blackheath’s renewed energy was noticeable and they pressed hard into T Wells half but a quick counter attack saw them on the back foot with T Wells scoring from a cracking top of the d shot. 1-1.
Undeterred Blackheath pushed on securing themselves a short corner - it wasn’t quite what was planned but with Laura finding herself with the ball at the far side of the d she took a lovely shot which Amelie deflected in to take the lead. 2-1.
Both sides kept pushing for another goal (with Vicki B not even bothering to come back into Blackheath’s half for the restart) but time ran out and Blackheath took the well deserved victory. A good way to end the season for Evie who is off travelling and to set the mood for Band Night!
